Saving a Ton of Space by Converting WAV to MP3

If you’ve dealt with WAV files in the past or have a lot of them sitting on your computer then you know how much of a space hog they can be. It’s nice and all to have uncompressed audio that has great sound quality, but the fact of the matter is that you won’t end up being able to store much at all with the sheer amount of space it ends up eating up.

More importantly, with other devices that have more limited space such as smartphones, mp3 players and so on – WAV files simply become untenable since even less of them can be stored with the more limited storage space of these devices.

It should come as no surprise that this is one of the main reasons why people opt to convert their WAV files to MP3. Sure, MP3 is a compressed audio format and yes the audio quality will be affected, but for most purposes it hardly matters. If you want to do the same – the easiest (and fastest) way to do so is by using the Movavi Video Converter for Windows.

How to Convert WAV to MP3

It may seem strange that you’re using a video converter to convert audio files but frankly the Movavi Video Converter is so feature-rich that it allows for this. All you need to do is:

  1. Choose to ‘add audio’ and select the WAV file you want to convert
  2. Set the output format to MP3 (Audio only) and select the bitrate that you desire (higher bitrate equates to better quality but larger file sizes)
  3. Select the destination folder and click convert

See – piece of cake, right? It really is that simple and in just a few seconds the conversion process should e done and you’ll have converted the original WAV file to a brand new MP3 that has whatever bitrate you selected. It is worth noting that you could even use this method to save the soundtrack from a video file if you like.

If for whatever reason you want to do the opposite (i.e. convert MP3 to WAV) then that’s possible to, however you should be aware that converting from a compressed audio file to an uncompressed audio file isn’t going to increase its quality – so all you’ll effectively be doing is getting a larger file that has exactly the same quality.

All said and done, it’s up to you to decide on the format that you’d like – but suffice to say now that you can convert WAV to MP3 it should open up a lot of options and help you save a considerable amount of space on your hard drive.
